Snowmagedon, Georgia 2010
It happens to me a lot this time of year; a longing for snow. I get positively giddy when the temperature drops down to the 30s and I look to the sky hoping for sheepy looking clouds to drop their fluffy blankets of white snow.
What is it about snow that makes everything feel so magical?
This morning, I puzzled over that question and why I have such a longing for it. And I figured it out. In this past year, I noticed just how much my own cycles and rhythms follow the cycles of nature where I live. And now that winter is here I want an excuse to stay inside and be still. Snow is that excuse...my permission slip to slow down and go deeper inside. But snow shuts everything down here in the US South and I don't necessarily want that (especially since there are some movies I'm looking forward to seeing!)
Today Jamie asks 'what is your winter wish?'
I wish for the qualities of snow...the stillness to go deep within myself, the ability to see the beauty around me and the permission to honor nature's cycles and rhythms as well as my own.
