very special Smashbooks. I call them 'The Story of Me' and
it's a legacy gift for my kids.
This idea started at the end.
As we cleaned up my parents house I found all these
pictures of people who might have been family.
Some of them had names on or around them.
But more about them has yet to be found...if ever.
During that time of intense grief I longed to have some kind of connection to the past and knowing there
wasn't anyone left on my mom's side (as far as I know since she was an only child) was for me, another
dosage of grief I had to bear and move through.
Pictures stuffed in assorted boxes with stories that are lost to time.
My family's history lost in time...my history lost.
I was determined not to let that happen to my kids.
I started smashing the pictures and writing my stories down.
It's been an amazingly healing journey as I've gotten to choose what I want to shine the light of memory on.
And it is my sincere hope in doing this my kids will have a different perspective of who I am when they are out
on their own.
I don't know that I'm passing on any great truths or deep wisdom but I hope having such a personal gift will
help them in some way after I'm gone.
And I'm sharing about it publicly so I can be held accountable to push through and complete these books.
Because I know it is one of the most important pieces of art I will make.
