While waiting outside for my son to finish his class, I caught a glimpse of a rainbow. And in that moment I took a deep breath and side with relief for the reminder that even the toughest storm will pass and something beautiful will be there on the other side waiting for us to take the time notice.

I watched a butterfly outside my window bobbing and weaving on currents of air that barely moved the leaves on the trees and I wondered where we humans ever the notion that our lives move in a straight line when nothing else in nature does?
Goddess of Focus,
Bless this day and all of the goodness waiting to be experienced within it. May I revel in the things that draw my attention. Bless me in my ability to time block my schedule. May I focus with love and care until my tasks are complete. Bless me in my ability to keep my awareness trained on what is mine to create. May I redirect my focus away from comparison and criticism of my competence. Bless me in my ability to write as poorly as possible. May I relax knowing that you already love me. May this be my ritual of devotion today. Love, Dionne These were the most sacred times; going out to a cafe and sitting with a warm cup of tea or coffee on the table, watching people come and go as I wonder about their lives.
These were the most sacred times; being bored and getting in the car to drive to the store just to walk around but also coming back with somethings that maybe we needed but often we didn't really. These were the most sacred times; another cafe but this time with yarn in hands moving across the needles and listening to her stories since the last time we got to meet. These were the most sacred times: gathering our group and picking the time, meeting in the lobby and grabbing some over priced snacks. The conversation afterwards what we liked, what we didn't like and everything that spun off from there These were the most sacred times; waiting at the library because the internet is faster there. Refreshing the browser again and again all to get 4 tickets to see the hottest boy band in the world and then the real anticipation began as we talked about what we'd wear and what it would be like to breath the same air and would the weather hold. These were the most sacred times Bless this normal day of waking before the sun and preparing lunch for my son as a mid day reminder that he is loved and supported no matter what the morning held for him.
Bless this normal day of making tea and connecting with my daughter before we both dive into our respective journals; me wildly writing, her wildly drawing, both of us in companion able silence. Bless this normal day of creating slide presentations for online classes, responding to email inquiries, and wonder what's next for me. Bless this normal day of text conversations, writing a blog post and a newsletter and remembering to pause for a lunch break. Bless this normal day of school pick ups and 'how was your day? and what's for dinner? Bless this normal day of watching the sun set come earlier and the waning moon appearing in the night sky as we settle into the evening rhythm of preparing for what we how we be another normal day And if tomorrow should prove to be not so normal. If tomorrow should bring an uprooted tree crashing onto the back porch or a car accident or the death of a family member or any other intrusion that would make me wail to the Goddess for another normal day, may I remember to look for those bits of normal in that extra ordinary day. |
