Registration is now open for The Way of Tea: Transformative Seasonal Self Care! We'll be focusing on elemental hygiene, bringing a sense of sanctuary to the inward journey of the winter season and much more. I hope you'll join us! In the meantime, here's a taste of what to expect. Well specifically one cartoon. I've just finished Ultimate Spiderman on Netflix.
I was expecting it to be the regular fair of origin story and zany adventures. Yes the plots were solid and fun but what stirred me to my keyboard happened in a specific episode. It was something I could apply to my own life. The episode (season 1, episode 23) finds Spiderman and his super powered friends in a training battle against Captain America. Captain America explained that their super powers were only one tool in their tool box and they needed to use more of their tools in order to win the day. He encouraged them to use more than just superpowers to get the job done. I thought about how that relates to my writing or any other goal I set for myself. When getting a blog post written, the most obvious tools are the internet connection my Mac, or the pen and notebook I sometimes use to get the words flowing. What are my superpowers? Creating a safe nurturing environment is one of them, listening without judgement is another. Can I give myself those gifts as I sit down to write? I'm very good at creating a safe, nurturing environment for my writer self though sometimes I find I don't give the non judgement to myself as much as I could. My ego want everything I write to be a masterpiece and I've been known to use that resoning to stop writing. That's part of knowing the fight…but more on that later. So the question becomes what are the other tools in my tool box? What about my work with the elements? What about being a Priestess? How can I use these tools to get the blog post written? Before I sat down to write, I used the Priestess power of calling in sacred space and asked the elements for their support. I called on Earth for step by step (or in this case word by word) guidance, Water for flow,Air for clarity of thoughts, Fire for dynamic action and Spirit to fuse my creativity with the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine to get my thoughts and ideas out into the world. As I am typing this I'm finding the writing is coming out easier; the elements are lending their skills to me and now the writing is becoming another tool in my toolbox. Later in the episode, Captain America and Spiderman went up against Doctor Doom. Doc Doom sent his Doombots out to stop them but Cap told Spidey he needed to 'know the fight'. In this case the fight wasn't against the Doombots, it was getting to Doctor Doom and stopping his plans. So how does this relate to blogging? What's the fight? Getting the writing out of my head and on to the blog. Who's the fight against? The fight is always against Resistance. I give Resistance a capital letter because since I've seen how pervasive it is in on stopping me, as if it were a real, physical person. It's sole purpose is to keep me from expanding into living in my zone of genius, where my dreams come true. It strives to disconnect me from the 'me' who is already living the dreams to keep me small. Does the word fight feel too violent? I don't think so because most days it truly feels like a fight against instant gratification and delaying that graitification until after the blog post is completed. Even as I sit and write these words I'm feeling immense pressure to take care of other things. What I'm actually doing is forcing myself to stay seated and keep my fingers moving across the keyboard despite the load of laundry calling my name, the phone ringing, the urge to get up and check on the dogs and other chores calling to me from my home distracting me from the fight. It's as if these things have become so compelling they absolutely must get done before I sit down to write. But if I do them first, I'm often not left with much enengry for writing and Resistance wins again. Stay seated, write and don't let Resistance stop me. That's the fight. When it comes to writing or any other dream or goal you have for yourself, know the fight and use all the tools in your toolbox. If you remember to do that you can win the day. At this very moment you have everything you need. You are safe, whole and protected. Whatever comes after this you will be able to handle because you can do anything you put your mind to.
And you know what else? The universe has your back. It only asks one thing in return; Let go of what you 'think' the outcome is going to look like. Once you set your mind to what you want to do the Universe will devise tons of different ways for you to get there and no matter what it is you want to do, it rarely turns out exactly the way you expected it to look. Trust yourself to take the steps you need to take and focus on the feeling. Journey already gave us a key when they told us to "hold on to that feeling" How will it feel when you accomplish this goal? Learn to hold that feeling in your body and turn it up. Magnify it 10 times....100 times. Saturate your cells with the feeling of dreams come true. Because however good it feels imagining yourself accomplishing your goals is going to feel 10 times as great when you actually get there. Don't stop believing in yourself my friend. You're almost there. |
