Hubby's return from Afghanistan (SAFE!!!), and me building my lovely Divine Feminine business. Our daughter newly graduated readying herself to head to Japan for her foreign exchange experience Thoughts of college entry in the fall bubble in the back of my brain. I'd say money has been on my mind quite a bit lately. It's not really surprising on this Wishcasting Wednesday Jamie asks "What is your money wish?" I wish to continue to develop a healthy relationship with money so I can teach our kids how to handle money. I was never taught how to handle money properly as a teen. This, of course, led to ginormous credit card debit for much of my young adult life. The credit companies willingly issued credit cards to college bound seniors back then. Hubby couldn't didn't even know how to write a check or balance a check book when he was a senior. He had some savings but he too fell into the credit card trap. It's all been trial and error for both of us for a long time. There's a lot of good that comes from the school of hard knocks but I don't want that for our kids if I can at all help it. I talk to our daughter about our finances and show her where our money goes; a sharp contrast to my parents telling me their money was none of my business. My beautiful gypsy fairy princess had a wonderful economics teacher. He made the class use the material he taught in real world situations instead of abstract ideas so she's got a fire in the belly about savings. She gets it. And I'm grateful the credit card companies haven't been pushing their wares on her. Our son is just getting started learning the different American money coins. I'd love to have this just be a part of his life as we home school. So I'm learning how to handle our money better.
Goddess led me to find a course called Conscious Bookkeeping Method by Bari Tessler. It's self paced and home study...just my style. I also feel once this money piece gets into place I'll be primed to really take my business into a larger direction as well. But that is another wish...
Thank you for the link to that course! I too never learned to handle money well, and I never taught myself once I was an adult, but I'm working on that now. I am going to check out that course right now. :)

Oh, I hear you. My hubby and I fell into the same trap-credit in university led to bad credit, tough choices had to be made. Came out of it all with a clear understanding of what to teach our kids NOT to do..as you wish for yourself, I wish for you also!
I was definitely blessed to have been taught how to handle and save money as a child, and it always makes me want to help when I see people struggling with it as adults. I'm very glad that you're aware of your relationship with money - so many people aren't - and are diligently teaching your children the principles that they'll rely on for the rest of their lives to help them financially. Many congratulations to you for getting your feet on the right money path. 1/6/2011 05:10:01

I too fell into that credit trap and it took me a long time to get out of it. It's wonderful you are teaching your children to be so wise with their money! Comments are closed.
