The surprising connection between knitting and the elements

Understanding how the elements combine in my creations
helps me to work with and direct the forces of nature.  For
example, I'm knitting a sweater vest for my son.  I'm so
excited about it because it will be my first fitted garment and
I'll learn several new things over the process.   If it turns out
the way I envision it, it will be very well received by my boy.

In tuning into the elements to create this vest for him, I can see
how Air (intention), Water (emotion), Fire (action), Earth (step by step movements) and Spirit (choice) all come into play.

In this case my intention is to knit a sweater vest for my son.  The emotions behind it include love,
desire, and pride.  I have a desire to challenge myself to grow as a knitter, I'll infuse love into every
stitch of the project and I'll be very proud of myself for taking the step by step actions necessary to complete it.  I know he loves Darth Vader, dressing handsomely and will want to wear it often.

Intention and emotion are enough to get started but not enough to complete a creation. This is
where the elemental realms of Fire, Earth and Spirit, who's powers of action, taking step by step movements and choice, come into play. In the example of the sweater vest these powers are
intertwined.  Deciding on the pattern and buying the supplies require choice (spirit) and actions
(fire) on my part.  And throughout the entire process I'm going step by step (earth).

The elements are also combining in another way; the earthy materials I'm using, the hours of
emotional enjoyment and relaxation (water), disconnecting from the fearful inner critic voices
running through my head (air) , the firey transformation of a ball of yarn into a garment, and the
unique way I express myself through the knitting of this garment (spirit).

Your Turn!

The next time you're creating a meal, a painting, a new business offering, or ANYTHING take a look
at how the elements are combining within you to bring your creation into the world.  If you're struggling with getting it into form, ask yourself what element needs might you need to strengthen or tune into for extra guidance for that creation.
